Brother William Dunn, CSC, was a long-time member of the St. Edward’s University faculty. A native of Wisconsin, he taught at high schools in Indiana, New York and California before coming to Austin. At St. Edward’s, Brother Dunn taught courses in European, American, and Texas history, and authored Knights of Columbus in Texas 1902–1977 and The Finest Country in the World: The Brothers and Priests of Holy Cross in Texas 1870–1984. Faculty and staff members regard his book, St. Edward’s University: A Centennial History, as the bible of St. Edward’s University’s history; it is known as the book with all the answers. The “Afterword” is written by Dr. Patricia Hayes, former president of St. Edward’s, and all who knew Brother Dunn shared her sentiments: “I want to express my personal gratitude to Brother William Dunn for his work and for the special witness of his life to this university.”
