"Shag” attended St. Edwards University from 1924 to 1928, and during that time, earned letters for four years in football and baseball. He was an All-Texas Conference fullback and captain of the All-Conference team, Best All-Round Athlete at St. Edwards in 1927 and 1928, “Who’s Who in University Athletes”, and a member of the Little All-American team. He signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1928, but a vision problem cut his career short. He passed away on April 12, 1990.
