Vince Richbourg lettered in baseball (shortstop) for four years and basketball (guard) for two years during his tenure (1957-61) at St. Edward’s. In addition to being voted SEU Man of the Year in 1961, Richbourg was voted Most Valuable Player in baseball and Baseball All-Conference in 1960 and 1961. Richbourg was the baseball captain in 1960 and 1961; the basketball captain in 1961; baseball’s leading hitter in 1960 and 1961; baseball’s leading home run hitter in 1958, ’59, 60 and ’61; and the lead in conference stolen bases, 25 of 25 attempts, in 1960. He also placed second in cross-country in 1959 and 1961. Richbourg is a lifetime member of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America. He signed a professional baseball contract with the Kansas City Athletics but an arm injury ended his professional career in 1964. Today, Richbourg lives in Tyler with his wife Carolyn. He is a CPA for Richbourg and Associates, P.C., whose hobbies are coaching baseball and officiating basketball. Richbourg is the president of the Tyler Chapter Southwest Basketball Officials and the coach of the Tyler American Legion baseball team.
