St. Edward's Opened The Season With Two Wins

The Lone Star Conference announced the women's soccer players of the week for the opening week of the season, naming St. Edward's MADDI DAVIS the Defensive Player of the Week.

Davis anchored a back line that allowed just three shots on target during the opening weekend of the season, leading the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 start. The junior from Spring, Texas, helped blank Newman in a 5-0 season-opening win while holding the Jets to zero shots. She followed that up with another stellar performance against No. 14 Emporia State, as the Hornets registered just three shots on target in a 2-1 SEU win. The victory over ESU marked the program's first over a Top 25 team since 2016.

Nine Lone Star Conference women's soccer teams began the season unbeaten as they kicked off the 2022 campaign. Angelo State, ranked No. 25 by the United Soccer Coaches, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M all secured 2-0 weeks. Third-ranked DBU knocked off No. 8 UC Colorado Springs on the road to earn a 1-0 start, while WT and SEU both toppled No. 14 Emporia State in home matches.

LSC women's soccer teams are 15-5-2 following the opening week and 6-4-2 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other conference in the South Central Region.

St. Edward's hosts No. 8-ranked University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
