Men’s Track & Field Prep for Conference Meet at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet

| By:

HOUSTON – St. Edward's men's track and field sent a small contingent to compete in the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet a week before the Lone Star Conference Championships and set three personal bests in the 1,500 meters and a season-high in the 4x400 Relay at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.

WILLIE ODEM led seven Hilltoppers in the 1,500, finishing ninth with a time of 4:03.83. AJ PENA and JAVIER TILLERO followed in 13th and 17th with personal bests of 4:06.18 and 4:08.08. Ben Bayly also scored a personal best of 4:15.31.

"The mid-distance guys brought a lot of fight and determination to their races," St. Edward's Head Track & Field Coach Steven Cary says. "After battling illness and injury all spring, it was good to see AJ back in full form. We had some strong performances from everyone. It was exciting to see."

ANDRE MOORE led the sprinters in the 100m with a 10th-place finish of 11.15. The 4x400 team of MARCUS AGUINALDO, CRISTIAN MENDOZA, RUDY QUINTELA, and TYRIQ WILSON set a season-best time of 3:21.30. BRADEN COX ran a 2:02.24 in the 800.

"The sprinters have had a busy month, but they finished the regular season strong," Cary says. "Andre had a solid day, even with a little bit of wind. It was certainly an encouraging race. Now we shift our mindset to what we need to do at the conference meet coming up to be successful."

St. Edward's will compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships this week, from Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 3, in Portales, N.M.
