DALLAS, Texas – Senior second baseman Taylor Johnson tied the school record for stolen bases in game with five in the opening game of the series victory over UA Fort Smith last weekend. For his effort, Johnson was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of January 28th. This was his first conference player of the week award in his career.
Johnson, after one weekend of conference play, leads the Heartland Conference in hitting with a .636 average. He also scored five runs and drove in four more. In the first game of the series, Johnson was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and was also spotless on the base paths, swiping five bases out of five tries. The five steals tied a 61-year old record set in 1952 by A.R. Lema. On two different occasions in that game, the senior stole second and third consecutively.
