Final Results
LAWTON, Okla. –The St. Edward's men's golf team finished first in the Territory Classic Tuesday morning by 19 strokes over a field of 15. The Hilltoppers (292-295=587) finished ahead of Incarnate Word (307-299=606), West Texas A&M (309-304=613), Cameron (304-311=615), and Abilene Christian (307-308=615). This is the Hilltoppers' first team title since winning the Gallardia Classic (Central Oklahoma) in April of 2012.
ANDRES RODAS (71-73=144) led all Hilltoppers and finished second overall. On the 18
th hole, Rodas used his wedge from 133 yards out to get within six feet of the hole. Rodas just missed the putt that would have tied him for first place overall.
Coach
Todd Ohlmeyer had positive things to say about the performance of Rodas. "Andres missed being in the lineup the first couple of events but has been working hard on his game and it showed this week."
DILLON VAN ESSEN (70-75=145) finished second on the team and was just one stroke behind Rodas. VanEssen tied for third overall.
JOSE HERNANDEZ (73-73=146) finished third on the team and tied for fifth overall. Hernandez was the third Hilltopper to finish in the top-five.
ENRIQUE LIVAS (78+74=152) improved by four strokes today to tie for 13
th overall. Livas entered the day tied for 34
th overall.
Meanwhile,
DAVID ARISMENDY shot a round of 79 today after withdrawing from yesterday's competition due to illness.
Coach Ohlmeyer was very proud of how the guys played this week. "The conditions were very difficult both days but they were committed to playing well and did," said Ohlmeyer. "Anytime you have the low round on both days of the event, things are going well."
The Hilltoppers will be back in action for the Rattler Invitational October 21-22 for their final fall event. The two-day tournament, hosted by St. Mary's, will take place in San Antonio at the Dominion Country Club. Check the Hilltopper Athletic website for results.
