Final Results
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –The St. Edward's Men's Golf team finished in 13th place in the Brickyard Invitational Tuesday afternoon with a combined total of 909 after three rounds.
Defending national champion Barry claimed first place with a total of 856, just two strokes better than second place Central Missouri (858). Rounding out the top five were Nova Southeastern (875), Missouri-St. Louis (879) and Cal. St.-Monterey Bay (885).
St. Edward's entered the day tied for ninth overall after yesterday's rounds of 303 and 302. The Hilltoppers shot a 304 in today's round to finish in 13th place with a total of 909. DAVID ARISMENDY and JOSE HERNANDEZ each finished with a total of 226, and tied for 38th overall. Hernandez shot a 76 today, one stroke better than Arismendy's round of 77.
ENRIQUE LIVAS had a 74 today to finish with a total of 229. Livas finished tied for 50th overall. BRIAN SMITH shot a 77 in today's round to finish tied for 61st overall with a total of 231. In his first collegiate appearance, DILLON VAN ESSEN finished tied for 79th overall with a total of 237.
The field of 17 schools included tough competition in the form of three teams that finished last season ranked in the top five: #2 Barry, #4 CSU-Monterey Bay, and #5 Lynn. Seven of the other schools are ranked in the top twenty-five.
"We couldn't recover from our rough start," said head coach Todd Ohlmeyer. "We did a good job battling back, but when you make mistakes in a field this strong, it is going to show in the end."
The Hilltoppers will next play in the Macdonald Championship on October 5-6. The tournament will be played at the Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.
