Final ResultsDALLAS, Texas – The St. Edward's Women's Golf team shot a final-round 296 to rally at the Dallas Baptist Classic and move up to second place. The 296 on the 5,900-yard par-72 Golf Club of Dallas course was the lowest round of any team in the final round and advanced the Hilltoppers out of a tie for fourth place.
St. Edward's (309-296=605) vaulted past St. Mary's (309-307=616), who they were tied with after day one, and Newman (308-304=612), who was stroke ahead of the Hilltoppers at the start of the day. Dallas Baptist (301-299=600) had its first-round lead hold up as they won its home tournament.
"This was a great comeback today," head coach Jennifer McNeil said. "Even though we fell short, I am thrilled to walk away with a second place finish."
Every St. Edward's golfer shot even or better than their first-round score as they took advantage of lesser winds on the course for day two.
HALEY HAUGHT (73-70-143) led all 91 golfers on the round as she tallied a two-under par, carding four birdies along the way. She would finish in second place for her first top-five finish of the season and 19
th of her career at SEU.
"It was nice to see Haley finish in the top two," McNeil said. "This will be a big momentum boost for her and the team as we head into our final fall event."
SANDY LIVAS (76-76=152) was a model of consistency for the tourney as she equaled her score from day one and ended tied for 15
th place.
JOHANY RIVERA (78-75=153) shot three strokes better and moved up from a tie for 27
th place to a tie for 19
th place.
MARISSA BRANSBURG (84-75-159) had the biggest turnaround of any player on a team in contention by improving nine strokes from day one and registering a tie for 41
st place finish. Briana Vogel (82-80=162) used an eagle, one of only six in the tournament, to move from a tie for 57
th place to a tie for 51
st.
ISABEL MORALES (84-82=166), playing as an individual, ended in a tie for 67
th place.
Sydney Williams (69-71=140) took home medalist honors as she bested the field of 91 golfers. She helped Dallas Baptist to the team title.
St. Edward's will be back in action Monday as they travel to Rohnert Park, Calif. to participate in the Sonoma State Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will take place at Foxtail Golf Club.
