LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Edward's moved to 5-0 in Heartland Conference play Saturday afternoon, as they edged Lubbock Christian, 2-1 to remain the conference's top team.
Scoring opportunities came early and often for St. Edward's (11-2-1, 5-0 HC); however, were unable to find a goal early in the affair. The Hilltoppers took nine total shots while the Chaps recorded three in the first half.
Heartland Conference points and assist leader,
ANDREW FOX, was also held quiet, unable to make anything happen for the Hilltoppers in the first half. The defense for St. Edward's would hold strong, allowing no shots on goal and keeping the halftime score, 0-0.
Three minutes into the second half, Lubbock Christian (6-5-2, 4-2 HC) would commit a foul, leaving
JOSH TAYLOR with a free kick. Taylor placed an excellent shot into the box, leaving the ball in a scrum of players in front of the net, and resulting in an own goal that would put the Hilltoppers ahead, 1-0.
Taylor's mark on the game would not finish there. In the 63
rd minute of play, he would find teammate
STEVE AOUDOU, who would beat the diving keeper, scoring his first goal on the year, and giving St. Edward's a 2-0 lead.

th minute, goal keeper
KEVIN LEIB and the strong defense for St. Edward's looked like they were going to add to its league-leading seven shutouts, having allowed only one shot on goal. Unfortunately, Lubbock Christian's Chase Williams would drain the second shot on goal from the top of the box to make the score, 2-1.
The Hilltoppers would hold on for the victory, extending its winning streak to five games.
"We need to finish the game off better in the future. It was disappointing we couldn't get the shutout," head coach Brian Young said.
