Final ResultsNEW HAVEN, Conn. – The St. Edward's Men's Golf team finished seventh in the rain-shortened Macdonald Cup Sunday afternoon at the Yale University Golf Club. The tournament was cut from 54 holes to 36 after most of Saturday's round was washed out due to course conditions.
Along the way, St. Edward's (297-296=593) bested seven NCAA Division I teams. Host Yale (286-283=569) took home the team title, while Harvard (289-281=570) finished in second place and Kennesaw State (295-280=575) ended in third.
"There were some positives from the week for sure and some things we can learn from for our next event, but we are disappointed that we didn't finish higher," head coach Todd Ohlmeyer said. "We, of course, want to win each week, and know that if we finish in the top-three we are playing pretty well. We are very close to putting it together."
JOSE HERNANDEZ (72-71=143) led the way for the Hilltoppers finishing tied for 11
th place. He was just two strokes out of second place.
"This was another solid tournament for Jose against a very god group of players," Ohlmeyer said. "I know he would have liked to have had one more round, but still a very good showing."
Also competing for St. Edward's were
JOEY HEARN (76-72=148) and
DILLON VAN ESSEN (74-75=149) who finished tied for 24
th and 31
st place, respectively.
JAY HOGAN (75-78=153) registered a tie for 49
th place, while
ANDRES RODAS (76-79=154) collected a tie for 56
th place.
Princeton's Eric Mitchell (70-68=138) took home medalist honors, while a group of eight players tied for second place.
St. Edward's will be back in action Oct. 20-21 when they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to compete in the Midwestern State Invitational. The two-day 54-hole event will take place at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
