Final Results
AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's men's golf team finished in eighth place in the St. Edward's Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Grey Rock Golf Club after posting a second round of 302 to finish with a total of 605.
The Hilltoppers (303-302=605) were two strokes behind seventh place Colorado School of the Mines (304-299=603) and five strokes behind fifth place Colorado-CO Springs (306-294=600). Barry (296-274=570), CSU-Monterey Bay (296-287=583), and Western New Mexico (300-299=589) rounded out the top three.
The tournament featured two top-10 teams, nine teams ranked in the Top-50, and 21 individuals were ranked in the GolfStat Top-100. Barry is the defending national champion and ranked #1 in the nation in 2014.
Individually,
ENRIQUE LIVAS (75-73=148) had St. Edward's top performance and finished tied for 13th. Livas played steady throughout the tournament, tallying four birdies and 25 pars.
BRIAN SMITH (75-74=149) improved by one stroke today and tied for 20
th. In the second round, Smith was even-par at the turn. After struggling through the first three holes of the back nine, the senior responded with five pars and a birdie to close out his tournament.
Also competing for the Hilltoppers were
JOSE HERNANDEZ (76-78=154), who tied for 46
th,
DILLON VAN ESSEN (77-82=159), who tied for 67
th, and
DAVID ARISMENDY (85-77=162), who improved by eight strokes and tied for 75
th.
Adam Svensson (69-65=134) of Barry took home first place, Carr Vernon (71-71=142) of CSU-Monterey Bay took second, while five players tied for third place.
St. Edward's will return to action for the Midwestern State Invitational March 17-18. The tournament will be played at the Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas.
