MIAMI SHORES, Florida –The St. Edward's men's golf team finished in seventh place in the Buccaneer Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Normandy Shores Golf Course. The Hilltoppers (288-288-292=868) finished just four strokes behind sixth place Florida Tech (282-294-288=864) and six strokes behind fifth place Chico State (282-294-286=862).
 
The field at the Buccaneer, hosted by #1 Barry University, featured five teams ranked in the Top-25 of Division II. Barry (283-270-278=831), Johnson & Wales (Fla.) (282-289-282=853), Saint Leo (282-286=568), and Nova Southeastern (283-289-285=857) placed among the top four.
 
As a team, St. Edward's tied for third in Par-4 Scoring, and fifth in birdies (41), and tied for eighth in Par-3 Scoring.

"We gave ourselves an opportunity to have a good week by firing a low round yesterday afternoon, but just couldn't get the putts to fall today," head coach Todd Ohlmeyer said. "Unfortunately, we didn't play the par-5's well this week and that was the difference."
 
Individually, ENRIQUE LIVAS (72-69-72=213) led the Hilltoppers and tied for 10th overall. In the second round, Livas birdied holes 12, 15, and 18.
 
JOSE HERNANDEZ (73-70-72=215) finished second on the team and tied for 14^th overall. Hernandez tied for sixth in pars with 37 during the tournament.
 
BRIAN SMITH (69-74-74=217) tied for 24^th overall. Smith shot two-under par in the first round.

"Enrique, Jose and Brian each had a solid tournament," Ohlmeyer said. "Enrique's top-10 this week was really good. He should be very proud of that finish against a field that boasts 5 top-20 teams."
 
DILLON VAN ESSEN (75-75-74=224) tied for 50^th overall while ANDRES RODAS (74-81-74=229) tied for 59^th place.
 
Adam Svensson (69-61-70=200) of Barry, Nico Cavero (66-73-67=206) of Barry, Joey Savoie (69-69-69=207) of Saint Leo, Santiago Gomez (69-70-71=210) of Nova Southeastern, Alistair Docherty (67-71-72=210) of Chico State were tops on the individual leaderboard.
 
The Hilltoppers will return to action April 7-8 for the Dallas Baptist Invitational.  The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Golf Club of Dallas in Dallas, Texas. Visit the Hilltopper Athletic website for more information.
