Final ResultsDALLAS, Texas – The 16
th-ranked St. Edward's men's golf team played hole 18 two-under par, while #6 Central Missouri was one-over to give the Hilltoppers their fourth win of the season Tuesday afternoon at the Golf Club of Dallas.
St. Edward's (288-276-302=866) held a slim one-shot advantage over the Mules going in to the final hole. And just like the first two rounds, the Hilltoppers excelled on the final hole. St. Edward's tallied birdies from
JOSE HERNANDEZ and
BRIAN SMITH, while
DILLON VAN ESSEN and
ENRIQUE LIVAS carded pars. Central Missouri (283-289-298=870) was not so successful, as they registered three pars and a bogey as the Hilltoppers took the four-shot victory. Colorado-Colorado Springs (281-295-296=872) finished in third.
Hernandez (71-66-77=214) led the Hilltoppers as he finished tied for third place. For the tournament, he tallied 10 birdies and one eagle.
Both Livas and Smith tied for 11
th. Livas rallied down the stretch in round three, carding two birdies in the last four holes. Smith registered five birdies in his three rounds.
After shooting a 78 in the first round, Van Essen rebounded to shoot 70 and 73 in the final two rounds to move up to a tie for 25
th.
Rodas shot a final-round 77 to finish in a tie for 46
th.
JAY HOGAN and
PAUL DRINKWATER, both playing as individuals, had outstanding tournaments as well. Hogan finished one-over par for the tournament and tied Hernandez for third place, while Drinkwater finished tied for 31
st.
Stephen Cook (66-71-73=210) from Colorado-Colorado Springs took home the individual title and Central Missouri's Alex Springer (69-70-74=213) ended in second place. Hernandez and Hogan had three other individuals tie them for third.
St. Edward's will be back in action April 21-22 for the Heartland Conference Tournament. The 54-hole, two-day event will take place at Slick Rock Golf Club at the Horseshoe Bay Resort near Marble Falls, Texas. Live stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
