Final ResultsAUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's men's golf team expanded on its three-stroke lead heading into the final round Wednesday and ran away with the tournament defeating the field at the 2014 NCAA DII Men's Golf South Central/West Super Regional by 16 strokes. The Hilltoppers qualified for the NCAA Championship by winning the regional title for the first time since 2008 when they hosted the regional and finished tied for second at the NCAA Championship in Houston, Texas.
The 19
th ranked Hilltoppers of St. Edward's (291-294-293=878) held a slim three-shot lead over #7 Western New Mexico, and were four shots ahead of #2 Cal. St.-Monterey Bay. The three would play in the final groups on Wednesday, and the Hilltoppers were solid.
ENRIQUE LIVAS (71-72-72=215) started the day tied for first. The senior did not disappoint as he played the front nine at one-under par, with birdies at holes four and nine. On the back nine, Livas dropped two shots on bogeys at hole numbers 10 and 12, but carded a birdie on hole 17 with a chip in from just off of the green. He finished at even par and in second place in the tourney.

ENRIQUE LIVAS said. "We have prepared for the postseason all year long. It was great to go out and do the things we have been working on. We have such good team chemistry and it is the key to the success we have had so far."
ANDRES RODAS (69-77-72=218) had a complicated second round on Tuesday, but rebounded with a strong even-par 72 in round three. At the turn, Rodas was three-under, but under windy conditions, the junior buckled down and brought home an even-par round. He would finish in fifth place.
BRIAN SMITH and
DILLON VAN ESSEN both showed a lot of leadership during the tourney as both played consistent golf all three days. The duo would finish tied for 15
th place, and the other 17
th place, respectively.
JOSE HERNANDEZ (78-75-77=230) finished the tourney tied for 50
th.
"We have a very deep team and there is no telling who is going to be at the top of our list each tournament," head coach
Todd Ohlmeyer said. "All five guys have the ability to be our number one player on any given week."
Derek Oland of Midwestern State ended up taking home medalist honors as he rallied with a tournament-best round of 67 on Wednesday and passed up the field to qualify for the NCAA Championship as an individual.
Also making the championship field as an individual was Colin Prater (72-71-76=219) of Colorado Mesa.
Joining St. Edward's in Michigan will be Chico State, Hawaii-Hilo, CSU-Monterey Bay, Western Mexico State, and Simon Fraser.
St. Edward's will be back in action May 19-23 at the NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championships in Allendale, Mich. The tournament will be held at the Meadows Golf Club on the campus of Grand Valley State. Tournament information will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
