WACO, Texas - St. Edward's University Cross Country runners ALEXANDRA VILLAFRANCA and GABRIEL MONTICURE were named the Heartland Conference-Male and Female Runners of the Week on Monday by the conference office, for the week of Oct. 12 – Oct. 18. The honor marks the first for both individuals and the second and third honors for the Hilltoppers this season.
 
Villafranca ran a 22:07.5 to finish in 11th place at the Southwestern University Invitational. Her time in the 5k led St. Edward's women to a second place team finish in the event held on Friday evening at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown, Texas.
 
Monticure led the Hilltoppers to a first place team finish at the Southwestern University Invitational on Friday evening. He covered the 5k course in a time of 17:34 to finish in third place individually.
 
Monticure, Villafranca and the Toppers hope to carry their momentum from this past weekend into the Heartland Conference Championship race, scheduled for this Saturday in Laredo, Texas.
