Final ResultsLAREDO, Texas – Amidst rainy and muddy conditions, St. Edward's University Cross Country finished its season of team competition on Saturday at the Heartland Conference Championships with the women placing fifth and the men taking eighth.
KATY GILLIS highlighted the day finishing 16
th individually to garner Honorable Mention All-Heartland Conference honors. She finished the women's 6,000-meter race in 23:28 while
JOHN DANIELS led the men's team, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 28:09.
"I am very proud of this team. We had our top four women under 24 minutes, and it was good to have John,
GABRIEL MONTICURE, and
JAMES TOWNLEY lead the men again," said head coach David Chandler. "Unfortunately on the men's side we had too many gaps to finish higher, but this first season has been great. We have the foundation and chemistry that we need to perform better from here. Again, I am very proud of this team."
On the women's side
RACHEL FREI finished four seconds behind Gillis, just missing all-conference honors in 18
th place with
VICTORIA MAYORGA right behind Frei in 20
th.
ALYA SALEM crossed the line in 22
nd place with
KEOMI HAMLIN,
HOPE RYAN, and
MAGGIE KAPROSCH rounding out the Hilltoppers top seven.
For the men, Daniels finished in 31
st with Townley and Jackson crossing as a duo in 43
rd and 44
th. Monticure finished just outside the top 50 with
NICHOLAS BARRETT,
NICK LEITGEB and
NICOLAS ZUNIGA pushing to strong finishes to round out St. Edward's top seven.
While the team slate is complete for the 2015 season, a contingent of Hilltoppers will travel to Canyon, Texas to compete in the NCAA Regional race on November 7 for a chance to go the NCAA National meet.
