Hoskins goal in double-overtime keeps #8 St. Edward’s undefeated

CLAREMORE, Okla. – OWAIN HOSKINS picked a great time to come up with his first collegiate goal for St. Edward's as his tally in double overtime was the game winner for the Hilltoppers against Rogers State Saturday afternoon at Solider Field. St. Edward's escaped with a thrilling 1-0 victory.

Hoskins, a defender from Fareham, England, pushed forward in the final minutes of Saturday's match. TY MOBLEY launched a long throw-in that found Hoskins on the doorstep of the goal, and the sophomore put it into the back of the net for the "Golden Goal".

"I am proud of the guys' effort and sticking to how we play even when we got late into overtime," St. Edward's Head Coach Brian Young said. "We created a lot of chances from the run of play throughout regulation, and Owain took his chance well to get us a key regional win."

All match long; St. Edward's (7-0-2, 2-0 HC) peppered the Rogers State goal with a barrage of shots but couldn't find their mark. Through regulation, the Hilltoppers totaled 14 shots with nine of them coming on-goal. They had three more shots in overtime but Hillcat goalkeeper Cody Gammill turned each one away before Hoskins' mark.

For the game, St. Edward's outshot Rogers State, 18-5, and had 11 shots on goal.

The Hilltopper defense has been outstanding this year, allowing just one goal. St. Edward's has the top defense in the nation with a 0.10 goals-against average. Through nine matches they have only allowed 31 shots on goal.

St. Edward's will be back in action Thursday when they travel to take on No. 2-ranked Midwestern State in a Top-10 matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the MSU Soccer Field in Wichita Falls, Texas. The two teams were supposed to tangle last week in Austin, but the game was postponed due to weather. This will be the first meeting between the two teams with both teams ranked in the Top-10.
