Final ResultsHORSESHOE BAY, Texas – The St. Edward's Men's Golf team fired a one-under par 287, but that was not enough as the Hilltoppers placed second in the Heartland Conference Championship Tuesday afternoon at Slick Rock Golf Club.
St. Edward's (293-285-287=865) started the day off six strokes behind the leader, Dallas Baptist (286-288-286=860). The Patriots played the front nine at two-under par, while the Hilltoppers struggled to a five-over par to drop back even further. Through the first six holes on the back nine, St. Edward's rallied to shoot seven-under and inch its way back into the championship mix. The only problem was that Dallas Baptist matched them shot-for-shot and kept them at bay by shooting six-under in the same span. The Patriots would hold off the Hilltoppers down the stretch to claim the title. Newman (293-288-285=866) finished in third place with St. Mary's (287-294-290=871) capturing fourth place.
JOSE HERNANDEZ (72-68-75=215) led the Hiltoppers by tying for eighth place. Hernandez was even-par before a quadruple bogey on hole nine. The senior rallied down the stretch to shoot one-under on the back nine.
JOEY HEARN (76-71-69=216) made the biggest move by any Hilltopper as he moved us six spots from a tie for 17
th place to a tie for 11
th. Hearn produced four birdies on the back nine.
JAY HOGAN (78-70-72=220) ended tied for 21
st place.
DILLON VAN ESSEN (75-76-71=222) was also under par for the day as he finished tied for 26
th place.
