AUSTIN, Texas – After scoring two goals in last season's first match,
WHYTNEIGH DUFFIE continued to produce on opening day with another goal in St. Edward's 2-1 victory over Florida Tech Saturday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
Duffie opened the scoring in the 36
th minute when she sent a header from 10 yards out to the back post. The shot found the back of the net.
VIKTORIA MALMROS tallied the assist with her cross from near the cornerkick area.
Nine minutes later, the Hilltoppers increased their lead to 2-0 after
ELIN ROSENBERG CEMAZAR scored on a one-timer from five yards out.
LEXI PLATZ and Duffie assisted on the play.
St. Edward's took the 2-0 lead into halftime, while outshooting Florida Tech, 5-3.
In the second half, the Panthers started to heat up on offense. The visitors tested Hilltopper goalkeeper
LORRIE SANTOY in the 62
nd minute, and Santoy made the save. They followed that up with another attempt in the 63
rd minute and were true with that shot to cut the lead to 2-1. Keira McCarthy scored for Florida Tech with Aubri Williamson assisting on the play.
The Panthers would send two more shots on goal against Santoy, but the Hilltopper junior preserved the victory with two more saves for the home team.
St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they travel to take on Colorado School of Mines starting at 5:00 a.m. MST. Live stats will be available on the WolfPack Athletic Website.
