GEORGETOWN, Texas – HOGAN DAUGHTERS and
CECELIA HINZ led St. Edward's cross country on Friday at the Southwestern Invitational.
Hinz finished 13th for the women in 22:48 and Daughters finished 16th for the men in 18:36.3. Both the men and women finished third as a team. A total of five Hilltoppers ran personal-best times in the 5,000-meter race.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The trio of NICK LEITGEB (18:36.8), CRIS HERNANDEZ (19:24), and Fabian Zaldivas (19:49) finished right behind Daughters in 17th, 20th, and 21st, respectively.
- Stephen Robles (21:05), BRENT WESTBROOK (21:59), and OLIVER PURYEAR (23:40) rounded out the men's team scoring in 27th, 29th, and 33rd.
- Hinz made a final push from third on the team to first with NATALIE AGUILLARD (22:49) one second behind in 14th.
- Veteran runner ANDI THEIS (23:12) crossed the finish in 16th place, while the duo of SHELBY MASON (23:30) and SUMMER MECHAM (24:01) capped off the team score in 18th and 21st.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Hernandez, Zaldivas, Robles, Westbrook, and OLIVER PURYEAR all turned in personal records.
- Theis leads the team in 5,000-meter races with seven career finishes.
- Friday marked the men's first 5,000-meter race of the season.

"This weekend's meet was a great tune-up for next weekend. Hopefully, it's a reminder of how to compete. For some of the athletes, this meet was a deciding factor if they are going to run at the Heartland Conference Championships next weekend, so it was good to see some solid competition amongst members of the team."
UP NEXT
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday at the Heartland Conference Championships. The race will be hosted by Dallas Baptist in Mansfield, Texas, at the Mansfield Sports Complex. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled for 9 a.m. with the men's 8,000 meters to follow at 10 a.m.
