Final Results

RIO GRANDE, P.R. – Junior JOHANY RIVERA shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday to capture medalist honors at the UIS Island Getaway.
 
St. Edward's shot 24-over and finished third out of eight teams. Third-ranked Tarleton State won the event at 15-over, while eighth-ranked St. Leo placed second at 21-over.
 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Junior JOHANY RIVERA (72-71=143) won her second event of the fall season and fifth tournament of her career.
• Rivera led the field in par-5 scoring (4-under), par-3 scoring (even-par), and was the only golfer to card an eagle in the event.
• Sophomore ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES (77-77=154) tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring with Rivera at even-par. Benavides finished 14th overall at 12-over.
• Senior ISABEL MORALES (74-83=157) had her best showing of the year, tying for 17th at 15-over.
• Seniors JESSICA TAMEN (81-78=159) and SANDY LIVAS (83-84=167) rounded out the scoring for the Hilltoppers, finishing tied for 21st and in 32nd, respectively.

"I'm sad to say I am disappointed with our effort on many levels today. For this to be our last round of the fall, and shoot the numbers we shot, proves we have a lot of work to do. I am hopeful the spring semester gets more push from the six players who didn't have the opportunity to travel this fall, and help our team grow and learn how to grind when our backs are against the wall."
 
On JOHANY RIVERA's play:
"I am extremely proud of JoJo's performance. She was so solid for 36 holes. To win in Puerto Rico in front of her family and friends makes this even more special. I hope she uses this victory to push her in the offseason to never look back and only continue to get better."

That marks the end of the fall season for St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers will be back action Feb. 13-14 when they take part in the Lady Rattler Invitational at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
