Boudreau Collects Two Goals in Semifinal Victory

St. Edward’s defeats St. Mary’s 5-0 to reach championship

AUSTIN, Texas – JENNIFER BOUDREAU tallied two goals to lead St. Edward's to a 5-0 victory Thursday against longtime rival St. Mary's in the Heartland Conference semifinals.

The Hilltoppers (15-1-1) defeated the Rattlers for the second time in less than a week. With the victory, St. Edward's advances to its sixth consecutive conference tournament championship match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Conference Offensive Player of the Year JENNIFER BOUDREAU wasted little time getting the Hilltoppers offense started. In the 14th minute, she notched her ninth goal of the season.
  • Freshman ASHLEY VALSIN-LUU, who is a central defender, pushed forward and scored the second goal of the match in the 33rd minute. Valsin Luu scored her second goal of the season on a header off of a cornerkick from sophomore SABRINA CONE.
  • Just after halftime, Boudreau struck for her second goal of the match.
  • A penalty kick goal by junior SYDNEY CARROLL and a goal from freshman SYDNEY MACK capped off the scoring for the home team.

HILLTOPPER NOTES
  • The Hilltopper winning streak reaches 11.
  • St. Edward's increases its lead in the series history to 31-22-5. The Hilltoppers have won 13 straight meetings.
  • The Hilltoppers have outscored their opponents 51-8 this season.
  • St. Edward's outshot the Rattlers, 15-0. Over the last three matches, the Hilltoppers own a 68-3 shot advantage.

QUOTE BOARD: HEAD COACH NICK COWELL
"It is always a tough battle when we play St. Mary's. It is usually a very physical match and today was no different. Our team came out in the second half and buried the match right away."

On the play of JENNIFER BOUDREAU
"As Jen goes, the team goes. She is really strong and tough to knock off the ball. She missed some chances early but scored a nice goal right after that. She scored with her left foot and she doesn't do that very often."

UP NEXT
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday in the championship match. Top-seeded St. Edward's will play Dallas Baptist at 1 p.m. on Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live video and stats will be available at www.GoHilltoppers.com.
