Final ResultsWINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – St. Edward's senior
JESSICA TAMEN showed a slight improvement from round one to round two on the first day of the Peggy Kirk-Bell Invitational, but in Tuesday's final round, Tamen easily bested her first-day results with a 76 to finish tied for 64
th place. She also helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 13
th place finish.
With eight of the top 11 teams in the nation, and numerous top-50 ranked players competing in the tournament, St. Edward's (311-314-316=941) performed admirably, as Hilltopper head coach Jennifer McNeil was looking for a specific result from her team in this week's event.
"We set out this week to put together three good rounds, and for the most part, I feel like we accomplished our goal," McNeil said. "Our finish in the field was never relevant provided we played better as a team, and they did a nice job of working together to get better. We now have a more solid foundation going into the second half of our spring season."
As the field averaged 78.89 for the third round, Tamen (83-81-76=240) bettered that score and moved up 16 spots on the final day.
ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES (74-77-79=230) shot in the 70s all three rounds for the first time this season and finished the tournament tied for 34
th place.
SANDY LIVAS (78-77-80=235) ended tied for 50
th place and
ISABEL MORALES (79-79-81=239) finished tied for 61st.
BRIANNA VOGEL (80-82-81=243) ended tied for 74
th place.
Nova Southeastern (293-300-292=885) took home the team title, while Barry's Tilda Larsson (71-75-73=219) won the individual title by one stroke over the field of 92 golfers.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action March 21-22, when they travel to participate in the Rogers State Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tourney will take place at the Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Okla.
