Final ResultsNIPTON, Calif. –
JAY HOGAN saved his best round for the final round of the Jackrabbit Invitational Tuesday morning at the Primm Valley Golf Club. His performance helped St. Edward's to a tie for sixth place against a field littered with NCAA Division I teams.
Starting on hole 13, Hogan (73-74-71=218) had a rocky start to his round, making bogeys on holes 15 and 17. A birdie on the 18
th hole got Hogan back on track. He would not make another bogey the rest of the day. A birdie on the par-5 eighth hole got him back to even-par, and a birdie on the 10
th hole put him at one-under for the day. He would finish tied for 11
th place to lead St. Edward's.
Head Coach Todd Ohlmeyer had this to say about Hogan: "I am happy with how Jay finished off the tournament. This will be a good confidence booster for him as we push toward the postseason."
Elliot Azoulay (69-75-75=219) had a solid tournament going after an opening-round 69, but two-straight 75's dropped him into a tie for 15
th place.
ANDREW SPEAR (75-75-74=224) and
JOEY HEARN (70-76-78=224) both tied for 31
st place, while
THOMAS HOLTZMAN (78-72-76=226) finished tied for 36
th place.
"We are pretty disappointed with how we finished off round two, and played in round three," Ohlmeyer said. "Each event this semester we have failed to capitalize on being in a good position heading into the final round. This was a good learning experience, and we will continue to improve as we get ready for next week."
St. Edward's will be back in action Monday, when they travel to take part in the St. Mary's Invitational. The 54-hole, two-day tournament will be held at the Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio. Live stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
