GRANBURY, Texas – St. Edward's junior ISABEL MORALES fired a career-low 70 to lead St. Edward's to a fifth-place finish at the Doc Housewright Invitational, Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was held at the Par-72, 5,790-yard Harbor Lakes Golf Club.

Morales (77-70=147) shaved seven strokes off of her first-round score, and moved up 20 spots to finish tied for fifth place with Newman's Alex Patton (76-71=147). Her two-under par 70 helped her to her second-best career finish. A year ago, Morales tied for third place with teammate JOHANY RIVERA and former teammate HALEY HAUGHT in last year's edition of this same tournament.

"Isabel played her best round in three years here at SEU," head coach Jennifer McNeil said. "She is really comfortable on this course, and these past two years of results show that. I am hoping she can continue this hot play into next week's Heartland Conference Tournament."

ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES (74-77=151) finished tied for 15th place. This was her second-straight Top-15 finish after winning the Mustang Intercollegiate earlier this month. JESSICA TAMEN (78-78=156) equaled her score from yesterday to move up the leaderboard, and finish tied for 35th place. BRIANNA VOGEL (79-83=162) and SANDY LIVAS (79-87=163) finished tied for 41st and 47th place, respectively.

As a team, St. Edward's (308-308=616) jumped up a spot in the standings ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce (306-320=626). They held off Cameron (309-311=620) and Angelo State (311-309=620) who both tied for sixth place. Host Tarleton State (294-292=586) defeated the field of 12 teams and held off St. Mary's (298-295=593) who finished second.

"It was good to move up a spot but we are still making the same mistakes," McNeil said. "We have to play better if we want to compete for the conference title next week. It is now postseason and time to step up our game. I hope we can respond with such a great opportunity in front of us next week."

Individually, Allison Howarth (69-73=142) of St. Mary's captured a one-shot victory over Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea (71-72=143). Perea's teammate Casey Wild (75-69=144) shot the lowest round of the day and finished in third place.

St. Edward's will be back in action Monday, April 18th when they take part in the 17th Annual Heartland Conference Golf Championship. The 36-hole, two-day event will take place at Apple Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Live video and stats will be available on the Heartland Conference Website.
