Final ResultsHORSESHOE BAY, Texas – St. Edward's junior
JESSICA TAMEN shot an even-par 72 to lead the Hilltoppers to a runner-up finish at Tuesday's Heartland Conference Championship. The championship was shortened from 36 holes to 18 due to weather at the Par 72, 5,942-yard Apple Rock Golf Course.
St. Edward's (304) edged out 12
th-ranked Dallas Baptist (305) by one stroke to claim second place honors, while St. Mary's (296) won the tournament at 8-over par as a team.
Tamen (72) started her round on the back nine and made an early bogey on the par-4, 13
th hole. She got back to even par with a birdie on the par-3, 17
th hole. After making bogey on hole one, Tamen rallied down the stretch with a birdie on the Par-3, eighth hole to finish even-par and tied for the runner-up position.
ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES (75) finished in a four-way tie for fifth place. She carded three birdies, which was a tie for third in the field of 50 golfers.
ISABEL MORALES (78) carded two birdies on her way to a tie for 16
th place. Briana Vogel (79) and
SANDY LIVAS (82) finished tied for 23
rd and 29
th, respectively.
Ann Parmenter of Dallas Baptist won the individual title with a two-under 70. Tamen tied for second with Allison Howarth (72) and Kelly Contreras (72) from St. Mary's.
Both Tamen and Benavides were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Hilltoppers will now wait to see if they are one of 12 teams to make the NCAA West Super Regional to be held May 2-4 in Stockton, California. The three-day tournament will be held at Brookside Country Club. St. Edward's was safely inside the Top-12 in the previous week's regional poll.
