Final ResultsGOODYEAR, Ariz. – The St. Edward's Women's Golf team had its work cut out for them this weekend, as it took part in the Mustang Intercollegiate. The two-day tourney was held at the Par-72, 5,900-yard Palm Valley Golf Club. Of the 24 teams entered, 13 of them were ranked by GolfStat and eight of the teams are within the top-20.
St. Edward's (308-302=610) entered the day tied for 13
th place. On the final day they were able to pass up regional foes No. 36 Oklahoma Christian (305-208=613) and No. 45 St. Martin's (305-208=613) and finish all alone in 11
th place. These were key victories as teams are vying for 12 available spots in the NCAA West Regional held in early May.
JESSICA TAMEN (76-73=149) was outstanding on the final day for St. Edward's as the senior moved up 18 spots to tie for 18
th place. After starting the day with a bogey on 18, Tamen strung six pars together before registering a birdie on the par-3 7th hole. She got to one-under after a birdie on the par-4 10
th hole. The 10
th hole played as the toughest hole of the tourney where only six golfers made birdie during the two rounds. Tamen did card two bogeys on the way in to the clubhouse, but still maintained a solid 73.
ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES (76-75=151) continued her steady play as of late as she finished tied for 30
th place.
SANDY LIVAS (78-76=154) improved her play for round two, and moved up 14 spots to tie for 44
th place.
BRIANNA VOGEL (78-81=159) and
ISABEL MORALES (81-78=159) both tied for 65
th place.
Tarleton State (285-294=579) hung on to win the tournament as they beat the field of 24 teams by 11 strokes. Northeastern State (288-302=590) took home second place, while St. Mary's (299-292=591) and California Baptist (297-294=591) tied for third.
St. Edward's will be back in action April 11-12 when they travel to Granbury, Texas to take part in the Doc Housewright Invitational hosted by Tarleton State. The two-day, 36-hole tourney will take place at Harbor Lakes Golf Club.
