TURNING POINT
-In the 77
th minute, sophomore
SABRINA CONE found senior
JENNIFER BOUDREAU just outside the box on the right side. After a couple of dribbles towards the center of the field, Boudreau sent a screaming left-footed shot to the far post that found the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-St. Edward's was the early aggressor as freshman
KATHERINE WHITMAN sent the first shot on goal in the 18
th minute. The rest of the half didn't produce much action, as that was the only shot on frame the rest of the way.
-In the second half, Dallas Baptist came out hot on the offensive side of things. The Patriots fired off three shots in the first 10 minutes of play. The second and third shots were saved by Hilltopper goalkeeper
LORRIE SANTOY.
-Freshman
SYDNEY MACK almost put away the first goal of the game as her shot in the 65
th minute hit the crossbar.
-Dallas Baptist got off a shot in the 80
th minute, which Santoy turned away for her third save of the game. That would be the last shot of the game for the Patriots as the Hilltopper defense held strong.
HILLTOPPER HIGHLIGHTS
-The game-winning goal for Boudreau is her first of the season and third of her career.
-After losing to Dallas Baptist four times last season, the Hilltoppers break the streak and increase its lead in the series to 24-10.
-After the back line didn't allow a shot on goal in the first game against New Mexico Highlands, Santoy was tested but saved all three shots on goal.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH NICK COWELL
"Our team was so excited to play a quality team like Dallas Baptist in a great NCAA Division II atmosphere. Our team can probably play better but I was proud of the way they kept in the game and finished it off. Scoring goals against a well-organized team like Dallas Baptist is hard, and we came through in the end."
