THE RUNDOWN

DUNCAN, Okla. – ANDREW SPEAR and DUSTIN LEWIS each tied for sixth place overall to lead St. Edward's to a fifth-place finish at Tuesday's Territory Classic at the Territory GC.

The Hilltoppers finished just five shots off the lead with a 607 (300-307) while Heartland Conference foe Oklahoma Christian took the title with a 602. Newman placed second (297-306-603), with UAFS (295-311-606) and Midwestern State tied for third (290-316-606) to finish ahead of SEU.

Out of 14 teams, no school was able to improve on its Monday round, as conditions Tuesday included 25-mile an hour winds out of the north. SEU managed the weather well posting the second-best round (307) of the day.

Juniors ANDREW SPEAR and DUSTIN LEWIS finished at five-over par for the tournament. Spear was one of two Hilltoppers to improve on their first-round score; he followed his 75 Monday with a 74 Tuesday, which was tied for the lowest round of the day among the 81-man field. Lewis' 73 Monday was followed up with Tuesday's 76, and the pair finished with two-round totals of 149.

HIGHLIGHTS
• ANDREW SPEAR tied for sixth place to collect his first top-10 finish of the season.
• Spear tied for second among all competitors in par 4 scoring finishing at two-over for the tournament; he also tied for fifth-most birdies with six.
• DUSTIN LEWIS' sixth-place finish gave the junior transfer a top-10 finish in three of four fall tournaments for the Hilltoppers this season.

THEY SAID IT
St. Edward's head coach Todd Ohlmeyer on the final tournament of the fall …
"Another decent finish this week. If there is one thing we learned this semester, it is the value of each shot. In three of the four events just a couple of shots would have gone a long way. We had the second lowest round of the day, in difficult conditions which is encouraging."

Ohlmeyer on Spear's performance …
"Andrew got off to a hot start with birdies on his first two holes en route to the lowest round on the course today."

Ohlmeyer on Lewis' collective fall performance …
"Dustin has had a great first semester. He is proving to be one of the best players in DII college golf."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Hilltoppers concluded their fall season Tuesday and won't compete again until February.
