THE RUNDOWN
LIVE OAK, Texas – The St. Edward's University cross country teams each brought home victories Saturday taking home the top positions among non-NCAA Division I schools at the 12th Annual UIW Invitational.
JOHN DANIELS took home an individual victory by beating his personal best 8K time by 34 seconds while freshman Josh Akin and sophomore
STONE HAMLIN each had top 10 finishes at seventh and ninth, respectively. SEU's men edged Heartland Conference foe Texas A&M International by scoring 52 points while the Dustdevils finished with 54.
On the women's side, the Hilltoppers dominated the competition scoring 27 points and collecting six top-10 finishes. TAMIU was the next-best finisher for the women with 42 points.
RACHEL FREI's 6K time of 23:02.8 was second-best among non-Division I competitors, finishing only behind TAMIU's Rebekah Hernandez (22:22.9).
UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi each sent runners on the men's and women's side while TCU sent runners on the men's side. Daniels had the fourth-best finish among all men in the competition while Frei had the sixth-best time.
HIGHLIGHTS
•
JOHN DANIELS ran a personal-best in the 8K for the second-straight week, this time leaving last week's performance far behind with a 25:51.7. His previous best came in Brunswick, Maine last week when he posted a time of 26:25.3.
• Akin's seventh-place finish was the third for the freshman this season, and he posted his second-best 8K time at 27:06.7.

STONE HAMLIN's ninth-place finish was his third-consecutive top 10 finish and he crossed the line with a time of 27:15.1.

RACHEL FREI's 6K time of 23:02.8 was the third-best of her career; In all four races this season, Frei has finished as the runner up.

KIRSTEN DEFRANCE (3rd, 23:29.0),
KEOMI HAMLIN (5th, 24:02.5),
AMELIA BARRETT (8th, 24:36.8),
ALYSSA NOEL (9th, 24:42.8), and
MICHELLE NGUYEN (10th, 24:56.7) all had top-10 finishes for the SEU women.

SEU Head Coach David Chandler on taking home wins Saturday for both teams …
"It was a great job by the team today, but we still have not fully shown our best yet. We will fuel off each other and step up our performance. John [Daniels]' race was very special today; he ran competitive and confident. That is what we needed."
