SAN ANTONIO – Sophomore
ANDREW SPEAR birdied five of his last eight holes Tuesday to lead St. Edward's men's golf up six spots on the leaderboard to a tie for fifth place in the final round of the St. Mary's Invitational.
With the tournament reduced to 36 holes, St. Edward's (307-294=601) had little time to make up for its struggles in round one. The Hilltoppers knocked 13 strokes off its score to make the jump.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Spear (82-72=154) shot 4-over par on his first 10 holes but rallied on the final eight holes with five birdies to bring his score to even-par.
- Senior JOEY HEARN (77-71=148) shot 1-under par to move up 25 spots into a tie 18th place.
- Playing as an individual, senior THOMAS HOLTZMAN (78-71=149) finished strong, playing his final 10 holes at 1-under par.
- The tournament featured eight teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation by GolfStat.com. St. Edward's defeated five of those teams.

"Obviously, today was much better. It is unfortunate that we dug ourselves into such a deep hole with yesterday's round but it was good to see the guys battle back. Spear's string of birdies towards the end of the round was a huge help. Joey played solid once again and I was proud of Jay for being able to maintain his composure after making triple on his first hole."
