Two Hilltoppers place in top five to give SEU a runner-up finish

THE RUNDOWN

GLEN ROSE, Texas – JOHANY RIVERA and SAMMY HUANG both had top five overall finishes to help the St. Edward's University women's golf team open the season with a second-place finish Tuesday at the TexAnn Fall Classic. SEU finished with a team score of 577 (286-291, +1) in the two-round tournament hosted by Tarleton State, finishing behind fellow Heartland Conference foe, Newman (287-288, 575, -1).

Rivera followed Monday's 70 with an even-par 72 Tuesday, to finish the tournament at two under par (142) and tied for second. Huang's 74 in round two coupled with Monday's 70 in round one helped her finish with an even-par score of 144 to tie for fifth.

SEU's ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES jumped from a tie for 10th Monday to a tie for seventh place Tuesday, finishing one over par for the tournament (72-73-145). Ana Jose Erana and NICOLE TEGO rounded out SEU's top 25 finishes tying for 11th and 25th, respectively.

Newman jumped from third to first from Monday to Tuesday with a 287 to follow a first-round 288. SEU finished five strokes off its pace from Monday with a 291 after finishing two under par with a 286 Monday. Midwestern State lost 10 strokes from round one to two and closed the tournament with a 578 (284-294) to finish at two over par.

HIGHLIGHTS
•    Rivera achieved second place by collecting six birdies and 23 pars for the week; she tied for second overall in both par four and par five scoring at -1 and -2, respectively.
•    Huang's SEU debut ended with a top five finish as she led the Hilltoppers with nine birdies, which tied for third among the field.
•    Huang tied for the lead among all players in par-four scoring at two under par while tying for second at two under for par-five scoring.
•    ANA SOFIA BENAVIDES jumped three spots from round one to two to finish in a tie for 7th (72-73-145, +1).
•    Ana Jose Erana bettered her first-round total of 74 with an even-par 72 Tuesday to leapfrog into a tie for 11th place after entering the day in a tie for 17th place.
