THE RUNDOWN
SEGUIN, Texas – Both the men's and women's cross country teams from St. Edward's University took team titles at Saturday's TLU Bulldog Invitational at the TLU Intramural Fields. Both teams competed in a 5K race with SEU junior JOHN DANIELS taking the overall win on the men's side while junior RACHEL FREI was second overall for the SEU women.

For Daniels, it was his first collegiate 5K race, and he posted a time of 16:24.87 to outduel teammate Josh Akin, who finished second with a 16:37.12. SEU had four men in the top six and scored a meet-low 20 points to finish ahead of the hosts, Texas Lutheran (52 points). Southwestern, Concordia-Texas and Sul Ross State also competed on the men's side Saturday.

Frei narrowly edged her 5K time from a week ago with a 19:05.96 finishing just a shade behind Concordia-Texas' Emily Villines' 19:05.68, and Frei took second overall for the second-straight week. KIRSTEN DEFRANCE (third), KEOMI HAMLIN (fifth), ALYSSA NOEL (sixth), AMELIA BARRETT (seventh), SIERRA KELLY (eighth) and MICHELLE NGUYEN (ninth) all took top 10 finishes for the SEU women. THEY SAID IT
SEU Head Coach David Chandler on Saturday's meet …
"It was great to get two wins today for both teams and see John [Daniels] win the men's race individually. Both the men and women are improving in their ability to finish the race better and run closer together. Today's course was harder to run fast on than last week's.  Our goal was to finish with 20 points or lower and we achieved that."

WHAT'S NEXT
St. Edward's intended to compete in the Montana Invitational Sept. 29, however, due to fires in the area, SEU made the decision to pull from the meet and rescheduled to compete Sept. 30 at the Bowdoin College Invitational II in Brunswick, Maine.
