WICHITA, Kansas - Newman University scored less than seven minutes into the contest and were able to hold off St. Edward's to hand the Hilltoppers the 1-0 loss in the Heartland Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday evening.
SEU had the first look of the game with a corner kick in the third minute, but Newman quickly flipped the script as Taylor White scored in the ninth minute to put the Jets on top 1-0.
A barrage of shots by the Hilltoppers midway through the half were just off frame or saved as SEU went into halftime trailing 1-0.
After the half St. Edward's continued to press as they worked to get great looks at goal but were unable to put one away.
Both teams got four shots in the game, but the Hilltoppers earned seven corner kicks while giving up four.
Will Tuffin posted two saves in the match while facing four shots, three on frame.
The Hilltoppers end their season with an 8-9-1 overall mark.
