Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the Heartland Conference leader and #4 ranked Midwestern State Mustangs at home Thursday, eventually falling 3-2 in overtime.
SEU played will in the opening frame, leading 4-2 in corners and 4-3 in shots but even with the attack-minded game plan the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half St. Edwards' GEORGE MURRAY, assisted by JC SUSTAITA, broke the stalemate. Six minutes later the Hilltoppers made it a 2-0 lead as PARKER FYFE's short crossing ball was tapped home by DYLAN ARMSTRONG in the 62nd minute.
Feeling time running out Midwestern State turned up the heat and finally saw their efforts rewarded with a pair of goals in the 74th and 79th minute to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime.
WILLIAM TUFFIN kept the Mustangs from stealing the win with a brilliant save in the opening two minutes of overtime. With less then two minutes to play in the frame MSU took the victory as Rory O'Keeffe punched home the penalty kick.
Tuffin suffers the loss despite logging seven saves on the afternoon.
The Hilltoppers drop to 3-6-1 on the year and 2-4-1 in Heartland Conference action. They remain at home to host Dallas Baptist on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
