#13 ST. MARY'S TOPS ST. EDWARD'S

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The first 45 minutes were thrilling as the Hilltoppers and Rattlers combined for three goals in the half as SEU fell 2-1 Monday.

St. Mary's started strong early, scoring in the 16th minute on a long ball and then added their second goal on a penalty kick less than three minutes later.

Just before halftime St. Edward's was able to close the gap by one as DYLAN ARMSTRONG netted a free kick in the 42nd minute.

Despite six combined corners in the second half neither team was able to score again and the Rattlers were able to fend off the Hilltoppers the rest of the way.

Armstrong headed SEU's attack with three shots, two on frame, while KIERAN FURSE added one.

"It is a challenge to play that long down a man," said Head Coach Brian Young. "We have to not put ourselves in these difficult situations. To be fair, we played well down a man and could not get the equalizer."

St. Edward's drops to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in the Heartland. They return home to face UT Permian Basin on Thursday, September 20 at 4:30 pm.
