GOLDEN, Colo. - A scoreless first half gave way to an aggressive second half offensively as St. Edward's was defeated by #10 Colorado School of Mines 2-0.
SEU got the first good look at goal with a corner kick five minutes into the first. Shots by Sabrine Cone and KATHERINE WHITMAN went just left of goal to keep the Hilltoppers off the board.
St. Edward's trailed just 5-2 in shots and 1-0 in shots on goal at the break.
CSM got on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute as Jennifer Kendall one-timed her rebound to the far post, putting the Orediggers up 1-0.
REBECKA RONNEGARD got the first shot on goal for SEU in the 79th minute and CHIDERA ARIRIGUZO followed it three minutes later with a shot blocked and ISABELLA CAMARATA's follow sailed just high.
A lofting ball off the corner kick into the box found the head of Emily Townsend who put it in the back of the net to give Colorado School of Mines some breathing room with under eight minutes to play.
St. Edward's trailed 18-5 in shots but led 7-2 on corners. They fall to 0-2 on the year while CSM improves to 2-0-1. The Hilltoppers remain in Colorado to take on Regis on Sunday, September 9 at 1 pm MT.
