Men's golf competes in Michigan

Hilltoppers place fifth at Motor City Invite

DEARBORN, Mich. – The St. Edward's men's golf team finished tied for fifth place at the 35th Annual Motor City Invitational, which wrapped up Monday at TPC Michigan.

The Hilltoppers shot 616 (310-306) to tie with Tiffin for the fifth-place spot. Both teams finished two strokes behind Davenport, which was in fourth place.

BEN CONSTANCIO turned things around on the final day, as the junior fired a 1-under-par 71. The Pflugerville native, who was the only player in the tournament to shoot under par in the second round, carded six birdies over the final 18 holes to trim eight strokes off the 79 he shot in the opening round. Constancio's two-day total of 150 (79-71) was good for eighth place overall.

JAKE LIVERMORE (75-76–151) was a stroke back and tied for ninth place. Livermore added another birdie to his total over the final walk around the course.

CARLOS TERCERO dropped three strokes on the final day, but finished third on the team with a 155 (76-79). Tercero tied for 27th place overall. AUSTIN COTTON turned in back-to-back 80s for a total of 160, which put him in a tie for 40th place. RYAN MCGINLEY tied for 58th place with a 165 (84-81).

Meanwhile, NICO CIAVAGLIA finished in a tie for 63rd place, while competing as an individual.

Tournament host Wayne State (294-297–591) ran away with the team title, winning by 14 strokes over Findlay (305-298–603). Northwood (311-297–608) placed third, while Davenport (306-308–614) was fourth. Northwood's Cameron Lippoldt rode his opening-round 67 to a two-stroke win. Lippoldt shot a 75 on the final day, but combined for a 2-under-par 142, edging Wayne State's Brendan Sey (72-72–144).

St. Edward's will travel to Arkansas next week for its final fall event, as the Hilltoppers will compete in the Battle for the Belt, which will be hosted by Henderson State at the Hot Springs Country Club.
