St. Edward's men's golf signs Drew Murdock and Carson Vickers

Men's golf announces two signees

AUSTIN – St. Edward's men's golf signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent this week. Drew Murdock and Carson Vickers officially signed to join the Hilltoppers next fall.

"I am beyond excited to have these two fine young men join our program," St. Edward's head coach Chris Hill said. "They both represent what we do at St. Edward's, on the golf course, in the classroom and in the community. It's so exciting to see our program come together with two more pieces. They are both high-caliber players and we are thrilled to have them on the Hilltop."

Murdock preps a Stratford High School in Houston. He played competitively on the American Junior Golf Association's Legends Junior Golf Tour, which requires an invitation to play in its events. Murdock also won two of the six tournaments he competed in with the South Texas PGA during the 2018 season.

"Drew comes from a very athletic family," Hill added. "He is a multi-sport athlete and we cannot wait to see how he develops in our program."

Murdock, who finished tied for 11th at the UIL 6A State Golf Tournament, is the son of former Texas quarterback Mark Murdock and former Longhorn women's golf standout Jenny Turner, who won the Southwest Conference championship and played on the LPGA Tour. His grandfather, Ken Brown, is a former goalie for the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers.

Vickers joins the Hilltoppers from Cedar Park High School.

"Carson is one of the most decorated players in the South Texas PGA," Hill commented. "He has shot extremely low scores and is a proven winner. We expect him to be a big part of our program in the coming years."

In 10 tournaments in 2019, Vickers has posted six top-5 finishes, including two victories. He also shot a 64 on his way to another tournament win at an event played at the Golf Club at Star Ranch in 2018. Vickers, who also is a multiple-sport athlete, is a two-time all-district player in golf.
