SAN ANTONIO, Texas – St. Mary's scored on a rebound in the 95th minute to defeat St. Edward's in the Lone Star Conference semifinals Friday evening.
There was a lot of action early on in the contest with St. Mary's notching the first goal in the 11th minute. SEU was quick to answer, however, as PARKER FYFE, assisted by FABIAN PALLARES to even the count 1-1.
The game remained tied into halftime and MICHALIS CLARK, assisted by GEORGE MURRAY, put the Hilltoppers on top and in the driver's seat in the 59th minute. St. Edward's battled and was able to hold the Rattlers at bay until the 75th minute when StMU's Alain Peralt tied the game at two.
As the match rolled through regulation the Hilltoppers were poised to take the win but it was St. Mary's that had luck on their side, scoring halfway through overtime. The Rattlers' initial attempt was blocked and Flores gathered the rebound and threaded a shot through two defenders for the game-winner.
SEU led 15-12 in shots while corner kicks were even at three a piece.
St. Edward's ends the season at 8-8-3 overall.
