HOUSTON, Texas – St. Edward's posted five runs in the first three innings but were unable to hold Cameron off the scoreboard as they fell 13-5 (5) Friday evening.
Cameron came out strong with four runs on one pitch in the bottom of the first as Marvulli homered with bases loaded.
The Hilltoppers responded well, getting three of those runs back in the top of the second.
VALERIE BRANT's shot to the short stop was bobbled, allowing Brant to reach safely and bring home
LAUREN GARZA for the first run.
KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ drove in
SARA MACHADO and
KAYLA APPLEBY singled through the right side to drive in
ASHLEY NASSY.
Cameron was able to get all of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning, however, before SEU got back to work at the plate to push two more across in the top of the third to pull within two, 7-5.
A huge six-run third inning by Cameron put the Hilltoppers in a hole they could not recover from as they eventually suffered the run-rule loss.
Garza led at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs while Appleby also had a 2-3 outing with one RBI.
OLIVIA BURDICK suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The Hilltoppers return to action on Saturday, facing Texas Woman's at 1 pm to close out the Arkansas Tech Invitational.
