SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Despite the frigid temperatures the SEU Softball offense was hot as they defeated Eastern New Mexico 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
St. Edward's posted two runs in the first to take the lead early.
TY'ERYKA PRESTON drew a four-pitch walk to lead off and
KAYLA APPLEBY followed with a bunt single. A walk to
LAUREN GARZA loaded the bases with no outs and
KYLIE MICA and
KATHRYN CONNELLY brought in the runs.

ILIANA VARA was strong in the circle, not allowing a base runner in the first four innings. ENMU's Moreno got the first Greyhound hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, driving in the lone ENMU run.
SEU added insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
VALERIE BRANT pinch hit and produced with an RBI single up the middle and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by
CAYLEI ALLEN to arrive at the 4-1 final.
Appleby, Connelly, Brant and
SHELBY JANDA posted one hit each in the win. Vara earned the win, allowing just two hits and one run in seven innings of work with four walks and three strikeouts.
St. Edward's improves to 2-4 on the year. They remain in San Antonio to wrap up the St. Mary's Classic, facing New Mexico Highlands at 10 am and Colorado School of Mines at 2:30 pm Sunday.
