LAWTON, Okla. – The 13th-ranked Cameron men's tennis team defeated No. 32 St. Edward's, 4-0, on Saturday at the Stretch-Henry Tennis Complex.
The Aggies (14-3) claimed the doubles point and then won three more in singles play to complete the shutout victory.
Both of the doubles matches completed with identical 7-5 scores.
Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos upended
ANISH SRINIKETH and
CHASE BARTLETT at the top position, while Osca del Granada and Pierre Marion defeated
LUIS DIAZ and
MATEUS DE COL at the third spot.
The Hilltoppers (12-6) were unable to pick up any points in singles action, but did push two tilts to three sets.
CHASE BARTLETT went down in straight sets at the fourth flight, which put Cameron up 2-0. Diaz dropped the first frame at the second position (6-4), but evened his contest with a 6-3 win in set two. Mritunjay Badola then won the final panel, 6-3, to make it 3-0 in favor of the Aggies.
GABRIEL ZUNIGA won his opening set against Przemyslaw Zielinksi at No. 3 singles. However, Zielinski rallied to win the final two frames to clinch the tilt.
St. Edward's will return to Texas to begin conference play next week. The Hilltoppers will travel to Dallas on Thursday, April 4, to face Dallas Baptist. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
