SAN ANGELO, Texas - St. Edward's softball closed the season at Angelo State Tuesday evening, dropping game one 5-1 and game two 7-6.
GAME 1: SEU 1 – ASU 5
St. Edward's matched the Rams at the plate with eight hits, but were unable to string enough together to make a push at the win. LAUREN GARZA put the Hilltoppers on the board in the third with an RBI single to left center, driving home KAYLA APPLEBY. ASU answered with a five-run third and neither team was able to score again.
KATHRYN CONNELLY went 3-3 at the plate while Appleby was 2-4. JULISA ORTEGA suffered the loss to end the year with a 6-10 record in the circle.
GAME 2: SEU 6 – ASU 7
Garza again kicked things off for the Hilltoppers in game two, driving home ASHLEY NASSY in the third to put SEU up 1-0. ASU answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a St. Edward's error to even the count.
The Rams scored four in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but SEU refused to give in, scoring a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull ahead 6-5.
SEU's defense was unable to close out the game, however, as ASU scored the tying run on SEU error in the sixth and posted the game winner with a single to left with bases loaded in the seventh.
Garza, KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ, and Connelly all posted two hits in the loss. KEELY FRAZIER suffered the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year.
The double header marks the end of the St. Edward's softball 2019 season. They close the year with a 15-27 overall record.
