EDMOND, Okla. – St. Edward's softball dropped their final two games at the Edmond Classic Sunday, falling 4-2 to Central Oklahoma and 8-7 to Rogers State.
GAME 1: SEU 2 – UCO 4
St. Edward's struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning on a Central Oklahoma error followed by an RBI double by
MORGAN ARCIA. UCO quickly responded, however, and posted two runs in the first and second innings to lead 4-2.
The Hilltoppers were unable to get anything else going as defenses took control of the game the rest of the way.
Arcia,
KYLIE MICA and
JORDAN NEELY all went 2-3 at the plate to lead offensively.
REAGAN CARTER suffered the loss in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
GAME 2: SEU 7 – RSU 8
SEU's comeback came up short as the Hilltoppers scored one run in the seventh before the Hillcats were able to secure the final out.
Ashley Massie's homerun in the second inning put St. Edward's on top early, but RSU pushed across five runs in the fourth and added three more in the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
SEU refused to give in and got back to work in the sixth inning.
KATHRYN CONNELLY scored the first run on a double to left field and
KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ brought her home with one swing of the bat with a 3-RBI shot to left field.
Neely's sacrifice fly in the seventh pulled the Hilltoppers within one, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
Seven Hilltoppers logged a hit in the loss and
EMILY KLANIKA suffered the loss in the circle.
SEU drops to 6-4 on the season and return to action on February 22, facing Our Lady of the Lake for a double-header beginning at 1 pm in San Antonio.
