SAN ANTONIO – The No. 16 St. Edward's women's tennis team continued its fine form on Saturday, sweeping Trinity and Laredo CC.
 
MATCH ONE RECAP
St. Edward's jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matchups. KATE MALAZONIA and CAMILA BAEZA started strong in their #3 doubles tilt, defeating Ashley DeBauge and Francesca Canjar 6-1. LOLI PERIM and KYLEE SHANNON quickly followed suit, downing Megan Flores and Paulina Garcia, 6-2, at #2 doubles. LARA SCHMID and HANNAH HARROD narrowly fell to Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen at #1 singles, 6-4.
 
In singles play, KYLEE SHANNON defeated Nicole Markiewicz at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-3, to put the Hilltoppers up 2-0. CAMILA BAEZA won at #3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and LARA SCHMID took down Garcia  6-1, 6-3 at #5 singles. LOLI PERIM won at #4 singles 6-0, 6-3 and KATE MALAZONIA secured her win at #1 singles, 7-5, 6-3. HANNAH HARROD completed the sweep for St. Edward's, downing Ashley DeBauge in a well-fought contest at #2 singles, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.
 
MATCH TWO RECAP 
The Hilltoppers rode the momentum into their match against Laredo CC. Shannon and Baeza made quick work of their #2 doubles matchup, winning 6-0 over Tania Ramirez and Alexia Alfaro, as did Malazonia and Schmid in their #1 doubles match against Evelyn Hernandez and Hannia Alvarado. ZOE DUFF and FANNI NOVAK won their #3 doubles contest by default.
 
St. Edward's swept the singles competition, winning each of its contests. Duff, Baeza and Malazonia each won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Harrod won at #2 singles 6-1, 6-1, and Schmid downed Alvarado 6-1, 6-0. FANNI NOVAK won by default.
 
With the pair of wins, the Hilltoppers improve to 4-0 on the season. St. Edward's is next in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 with a scrimmage against Division I Brown. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Austin Tennis Academy.
