DENTON, Texas – St. Edward's fell behind 2-0 in the first half and were unable to make up enough ground as they lost 2-1 to Texas Woman's Saturday to close the regular season.
TWU scored both goals within ten minutes of each other in the opening frame despite getting just four shots off. SEU matched the shot effort but were not able to find the back of the net before halftime.
St. Edward's turned up the heat in the second half, rocketing off seven shots. Shots by
TRISTYN CABELLO and
JULIA SPIELMANN early in the frame got the Hilltoppers headed in the right direction, but it was
SARAH PRESTON that pulled SEU within one with a goal in the 76
th minute.
ASHLEY WILSON nearly had the equalizer in the 84
th and 85
th minute, but TWU did just enough to hold on and hand SEU the loss.
St. Edward's led 11-9 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks. Preston led with two shots, one on frame, with one goal while Wilson added in two shots with one being on frame.
The Hilltoppers close the regular season with a 9-7-2 overall mark and 7-5-1 in Lone Star Conference play. They will await their matchup for the first round of the LSC Championship set for Tuesday, November 9.
