Softball drops two on senior day

AUSTIN – St. Edward's softball's offense was unable to replicate Saturday's magic as they fell 9-2 and 4-0 to Lubbock Christian on Sunday.

GAME 1: SEU - LCU

The Chaps were eager to get on the board, scoring their first run on the second batter of the game. They would add one more that inning before unloading for five in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

LAUREN JARESH entered the circle in relief and stymied the LCU offense, holding the Chaps scoreless in three innings.

The Hilltopper offense had a strong start in the fifth, loading the bases with no outs. LCU was able to get two groundouts to get the lead runners at home therefore keeping SEU scoreless, but a wild pitch gave St. Edward's their first run of the game.

VALERIE BRANT got the Hilltoppers their second run of the game with a double down the left field line to drive home KATHRYN CONNELLY in the sixth.

Lubbock Christian was able to get two runs back in the seventh and held SEU scoreless in the final frame to close the game.

MCKENNA LEAMON suffered the loss in the circle while JORDAN NEELY led at the plate, going 2-3 with one run in game one.

GAME 2: SEU - LCU

Lubbock Christian steadily added runs in game two, posting one run in each of the first three innings.

After a few scoreless innings, LCU added one more run in the sixth to go up 4-0.

St. Edward's had their opportunities to cut into the lead, but stranded five baserunners in the first five innings of action and were never able to push a run across home.

CADIE BELLE CURRIE suffered the loss in the circle while KAYLEE MCQUILLAN led at the plate, going 2-3 in game two.

Two seniors, MORGAN ARCIA and EMILY KLANIKA, were honored between games for their contributions to the program.

The Hilltoppers drop to. 13-17 on the year and 9-15 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on May 1 for a Battle of the Saints doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
