OKLAHOMA CITY – The St. Edward's Hilltoppers women's soccer team made a frenetic push over the final minutes but were unable to find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw with the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.
St. Edward's fired off three shots in the final six minutes. KATIE FITZPATRICK took the Hilltoppers' final shot on goal from just outside the box at the 84-minute mark, ending in Oklahoma Christian's Gabby Goddard's second and final save.
A few minutes later, KATIE GAY had an attempt in the box blocked. Gay also fired off the last shot, getting a clean look from distance that went wide right.
The tie snaps a six-game win streak for the Hilltoppers and marks the first time St. Edward's failed to score a goal this season.
St. Edward's held a 3-1 edge in shots taken and corner kicks, putting only one shot on goal. Both teams were more aggressive in the second half with Oklahoma Christian getting six shots to St. Edward's five and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hilltoppers
are 8-1-2 with a 4-0-1 conference record after the draw. Oklahoma Christian is 3-4-4 with a 1-3-2 conference record. St. Edward's will host Dallas Baptist, the top-ranked team in Division II, on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
